When the main invasion is gone, immediately order the Tiger warlord to come under your control. Use your lord to fend off the attackers, if you would lose all melee units anyway (it's probably better to retry at this point). It will be a close call, but most of your units should survive. Try to hold up the enemy long enough for your crossbowmen to make a difference, who will eventually whittle the enemy down. Your ground forces should be kept together and always regrouped in case catapults tend to fire at them. Rejoin the forces later to provide fighting power. Also try utilizing your cavalry to circumvent the enemy formation and dispose of the siege engines in the back, as they tend to have limited defense. It will take a few volleys to destroy the catapults, but you will have the job done. When catapults are in range, focus them with your archers, even if that means incoming fire from enemy archers. Don't fear about catapults just yet.Īs the troops get closer, keep a closer look on your sharpshooters and your melee formation equally. It is best to fire it in the middle of the enemy lines, as the rocket will also ignite the terrain on fire, roasting much of the backline and also severely weakening the enemy armor. All you get to confront this melee army is a golden shot, and you need to time it well in order to maximize your destruction. This is the time to group up all your melee units, and also prepare the rocket launcher. They will bring four catapults with ranged infantry and what's more, a wide line of sheer armor. Beware of the two fire lancers that can ruin your day with their flame attacks.ĭon't forget to regularly check the Tiger's influence level and just turn it off, when you are at the required level.Īfter a while, the main Jin force will spawn. You can also flank with your six imperial cavalry and run the siege engines down. Try focusing them with your archers, while your crossbowmen are busy decimating anyone coming near. Groups with lighter units, armor and catapults will arrive, which can be tricky to take out. Initially small vanguards of auxiliary axemen will come, then the invasions will turn up the tempo and become larger. The Jin will constantly send invasions at your position, focusing on the lord, from three sides. He will be a useful obstacle to remove later on. Keep your other troops in one big troop, and start pumping diplomacy into the Tiger warlord automatically, at once. Order all imperial crossbowmen and auxiliary archers to man the walls, roughly on the northern/central area around the gatehouse. They are your most valuable asset in the mission and at the same time, your lose condition. Immediately order the Lord and rocket launcher back to the buildings. It may take a few tries to complete the mission, depending how your prowess and luck favors you. The Jin will attack in ever increasing numbers, and you have barely any means to strengthen your position. However, he didn't give the biggest forces for you to hold. Genghis is full of motivation to take on his greatest enemy. To the west, the Tiger warlord and the Crane warlord are found with their rudimentary defenses. To the bottom right is your starting position, with a load of embassy buildings and a granary, with your army ready to march. Further east flows a short river, which cuts into the land southwards on its other bank an Ox warlord established camp. Zhongdu lies in a plain area, surrounded by multiple defense lines in the northwest and a Horse warlord east from it. Genghis trusts you with the execution of the defense and the inevitable counterattack thereafter. The Mongol ruler finds himself however in trouble, as the Jin prepare for a counterattack in order to push out and annihilate the invaders. Genghis Khan establishes a foothold near the capital, Zhongdu and prepares the siege of the final fortification. With Yehuling conquered, the Mongols have thrusted deeply into the heart of the Jin Empire. This is mission 5 in the Stronghold Warlords military campaign, The Coming of the Mongols.
